Xiaomi has also accelerated its global home appliance expansion plans by investing in a new mass production line in China, which will exponentially increase efficiency. As Xiaomi/Mijia refrigerators, air conditioners, and washing machines expand from China to more countries worldwide, Xiaomi has introduced a next-generation factory optimized for speed, efficiency, and scalability.
The establishment of a new Xiaomi home appliance production base
To meet growing global demand, Xiaomi has launched a factory specifically dedicated to manufacturing home appliances: the Wuhan Xiaomi Smart Home Appliance Factory. This is the first factory Xiaomi has created focused solely on producing large home appliances, as most of its previous products were smartphones, televisions, and similar devices.
In the words of Lu Weibing, partner and president of the Xiaomi Group, as well as CEO of the Xiaomi brand: «The first phase of our factory has been completed, and we are already operating at full capacity.» This means the factory is currently running at full capacity with production lines optimized for greater efficiency. This demonstrates Xiaomi’s commitment to vertical integration and smart manufacturing practices.
The Wuhan factory is notable for the speed at which it produces its products. It takes only 6.5 seconds to produce one unit of the Mi Home Pro Dual Fan Wheel Central Air Conditioner.
The factory now boasts a total of six professional production lines, encompassing the entire assembly process for residential and central air conditioning systems. This enables Xiaomi to increase production speed with minimal manual labor, ensuring a high level of quality control. The initial production run of air conditioners from this factory is ready for commercial launch.
Xiaomi’s third megafactory and a strategic milestone
The Wuhan Smart Home Appliance Factory is Xiaomi’s third giant smart factory, following its next-generation smartphone factory and super-factory for automobiles. But this particular factory holds special strategic significance because it is Xiaomi’s first giant factory dedicated solely to home appliances.
Xiaomi is making a bold statement with a significant investment in home appliance manufacturing, signifying that the brand no longer considers smart home devices a secondary product line to smartphones. This is because Xiaomi is making smart home devices a core component of its global expansion strategy, which is linked to Xiaomi HyperConnect and the AIoT ecosystem.
Rapid construction: an efficiency paradigm is established
Aside from the production rate, the construction schedule for the Wuhan plant has generated considerable interest. Located in the East Lake Technology Development Zone, the plant’s foundation stone was laid on November 26 of last year. Construction began three months after the contract was signed, and the main structure was completed on January 20, 2025.
The completion of such a massive industrial project in such a short timeframe has set a new benchmark for Xiaomi in terms of project completion. It clearly demonstrates that Xiaomi is applying a specific efficiency approach, from product development to infrastructure development.
